Nothing but good news!

Among all the gloom and doom in the papers yesterday, I was delighted to find this article in the New York Times, containing many heartening statistics for us fans of home cooking and positive eating: “Instead of Eating to Diet, They’re Eating to Enjoy.” Check out the article for a number of books worth looking into – the next one on my to-read list is Michael Pollan’s In Defense of Food.

Many nutritionists and foodies are chiming in on the topic, notably Alice Waters of Chez Panisse and the founder of the Slow Food movement in this country:

We need to demystify cooking…. It creates feelings about food that make you feel cared for, and that’s the kind of food that really changes habits.

It looks like people are gradually coming to realize what that annoying cat Garfield said (back in the 70s?): Diet is just “die” with a “t” at the end. So welcome back to the kitchen, America – let’s get cooking…and eating!

  1. I couldn’t be happier that people are finally wanting to eat real food again. It was a good article.

  2. I’m with you – let’s take back the kitchen!
